2019 Goals for Fundraising Dollars - What would you like to help us with?
Museum Discount Passes:
Our discount passes to museums in NH and Boston are used by nearly 500 families every year and save those families $18,000. The library pays $2,500/year for library passes so the extra support through fundraising makes a big difference. In 2016, thanks to the generosity of a few donors, we were able to offer new passes to the Portland Children's Museum and the New England Aquarium. Our Friends of the Library Group sponsors the SEE Science Center, Seacoast Science Center, Strawbery Banke, and Portland Children's Museum passes at $700/year. Maybe your group or business would like to sponsor a pass?
Annual cost to library for museum passes:
- Boston Museum of Science = $700
- New England Aquarium = $650
- Peabody Essex Museum = $350
- Children's Museum of NH = $300
- Strawbery Banke = $250 *Thank You Friends Group!
- SEE Science Center = $200 *Thank You Friends Group!
- Boston Museum of Fine Arts = $200 *Thank You Friends Group!

Bestsellers - Additional Copies:
We try to keep waiting lists as short as possible by purchasing extra copies of the most popular titles. In response to demand, we purchase an additional copy for every 5 people waiting. That helps to keep your wait time down. Fundraising dollars can help us respond to demand so that you don't have to wait as long to read the book you want. You can make a donation and request that the money be used specifically for bestsellers. Even $30 can buy us 2 extra copies of a popular item.
Programs & Activities:
Attendance at our programs for all ages has increased steadily for the past few years. Over 20% of attendees are first-timers who then become library regulars. As demand grows, we try to offer more programs on more different topics -- and, you guessed it - that costs more. We put program gifts directly to bringing in new speakers, for materials for craft programs for adults and kids, and to support programs we present in partnership with other groups like the Stratham Historical Society. Where else can you participate in fun, lifelong learning at no cost? Gifts in this area benefit nearly 10,000 people each year.
Technology Help, Instruction, and Access:
In 2018 we offered drop-in technology help, when you can ask any technology questions and get useful, down-to-earth answers. We circulate e-readers so that you can try one out or take a bunch of books on vacation. Our public computers and Wi-Fi get used more than 500 times each month. Gifts help us to maintain the high-level of training for library staff, update the technology we offer, and support ongoing tech classes.
Biannual Book Sales
The library has two book sales each year in the spring and fall.
