CORAL Library Consortium
We are very excited to announce that Wiggin Memorial Library, Weeks Public Library in Greenland and Lane Memorial Library in Hampton are forming a consortium!
What’s a consortium?
It’s when libraries pool their resources together so they can better serve their communities. In this case, our consortium, which will be known as CORAL (Consortium of Rockingham Area Libraries), will be sharing many of its library collections among our three communities, exponentially increasing the materials available to you!
Starting July 8th, your WML Library card will be honored at both Weeks Public and Lane Memorial libraries. You’ll be able to request books, audiobooks, and movies from a shared online catalog, and you’ll be able to pick those items up right here at Wiggin, just the way you normally do! You will also be able to visit any consortium library with your Wiggin Library card and check out items in person.
Over the next month, as we make preparations for the consortium going live on July 8th, we will need to make some modifications to our system.
In order to ensure everything moves into the consortium the way it should, we will need to limit our cataloging of new items for a short period of time this month. This will mean temporarily pausing adding new items to our collection, but don’t worry, we’ll be ready to gear up to add lots of new items in July.
Additionally, from June 29th through July 7th, we will have to “freeze” our circulation system while all our data is transferred into our new database. We ask for your patience during this “frozen” period, as some of our services will be temporarily unavailable.
In particular, please be aware during this “frozen” period of the following changes:
- While you will still be able to check out items, we will ask you to please limit your checkouts to no more than 5 items a day.
- We will be utilizing a manual checkout process, so please bring your library card or a photo ID with you during this time. It will really help us as we check out materials the old-fashioned way.
- We will not be able to add new items to the catalog OR issue library cards to new patrons.
- You will not be able to place holds on any library item.
- Your library account will not be up to date during this changeover so you may not see your most up to date checkouts listed, and you may see things you’ve returned still listed. Please don’t worry! Everything will be reconciled when our system goes live again.
Please stay tuned for more consortium news soon!
